Loans

If you are interested in a loan, tissue subsample, photograph or radiograph of a specimen in our care, please contact curators Brian Sidlauskas and Peter Konstantinidis with the details of your request.

In your letter, please include the purpose of the request, the specimens or species of interest, the desired duration of the loan and your mailing address for courier delivery (usually Federal Express).  For international shipments, please also include any information that will help the specimens to arrive safely in your country, such as links to the proper customs forms or information about the preferred external labelling of packages.  If requesting only certain specimens within a larger series, please include information on the preferred sizes or other information needed to help us select individuals.

Loan and tissue subsamples are made at the discretion of the curators. Specimens under active research by our personnel, rare or fragile specimens or large series of specimens may not loanable.  We typically do not loan specimens for artistic or commercial purposes.   In such circumstances we may be able to provide a photograph, and we welcome visitors to examine material in person at our facility in Corvallis.

All loan recipients must have access to facilities with the capacity to properly care for the specimens during the loan period. Loans requested by students will be made to their major advisor, who should be included on all loan-related correspondence.
